Our main goal on this section of the trip was to take the scenic routes. We didn’t have a really long drive for the day so we took a detour to Whitefish Point to see Lake Superior. On the way we found a roadside stand selling fresh berries and Sandra jumped out and bought a huge bag of blueberries for $3.00.
At Whitefish Point is the Shipwreck Museum, a Coastguard Station and a bird rescue group.
(There is something to see for every type of tourist) We walked the dogs out on the beach
the sand was brownish pink in color and the water was crystal clear. We felt like we were on a regular beach but this was a fresh water lake and we could let the dogs drink the water!
We walked down the beach to let the pups get some exercise away from the people and ran them off leash for a little while. Duke couldn’t get enough of the water while Goblin kept licking the sand because he was afraid to get his feet wet by walking out deep enough to be able to drink the water. (He’s still afraid of the waves.)
We skipped stones on the water and really just enjoyed the cooler weather. The beach was so different that what we were used to. Instead of shells on the beach there were rocks of all shapes and colors. Of course we had to have a group photo before heading back to the road.
