If you know James, you have probably seen the photo of his Austrian dog treat obsession: Rabbit Ears. These aren’t just treats made with rabbits. They are a full ear of a rabbit, with fur, from the rabbit’s nostril to the tip of its ear. And the ears are usually full of wax. And they smell AWFUL.
Here is the photo in case you haven’t seen it yet:
When we left Europe to come back to the US, I told Chris we needed to buy a bunch of these treats and bring them back to the US. But we were afraid they might be considered meat or livestock and we would get in trouble at Dulles. I ALMOST took a chance and I am glad that I didn’t: a Beagle sniffed our luggage when we landed.
When I was on Chewy.com ordering James’ newest US treat obsession (beef esophagus), I happened to search for rabbit treats. They had some! They are from a company called Vital Essentials and they are freeze dried rabbit ear treats. I decided to order them for James.
James was of course REALLY excited about them!
But they just don’t have the same “WOW” factor that the European rabbit ear treats have.
I was reading online that I might be able to bring back some of these rabbit ears from Europe – I just have to declare them at customs. I will see if I can find out in advance what I need to do – because James just loves those European rabbits!
