Well, James didn’t have the 9th birthday we planned. He was drinking a little water and we syringe fed him some Ensure and Pedialyte. But then he wasn’t keeping it down. I was worried that he was probably getting dehydrated.
So we took James back to the emergency vet Saturday night. I’m so glad we did. His bilirubin count was really high and his pancreas was irritated. He needed liquids quickly. They put him on an IV and said we needed to wait 48 hours before he could come home. It was hard to leave him at the vet, but we knew he needed it.
We visited James on Sunday and then again on Monday. We met with the specialist on Tuesday and he said that all of J’s numbers were coming back down to normal. The only thing is James still wasn’t eating. But he was drinking a little. So he wanted to send him home so he could get some good rest.
James slept really, really well last night. He was trembling a little this morning. But this afternoon it seems like the trembling isn’t as bad. We are giving him Ensure and we are also trying the Primal Raw Goat Milk. I even put a little canned food into water and fed that to him and he kept it down.
Hopefully tomorrow James will feel like eating again. Tomorrow it will be one week of him not eating. He is feeling well enough for chin scratches, so that is a good sign!
