We fell in love with the Angostura Reservoir back in 2018. It is in a remote area of southwest South Dakota just south of Hot Springs, South Dakota. There are several state-run campgrounds along the lake and some of the campsites are waterfront. The waterfront sites are hard to get during the summer but even the non-waterfront sites are a short walk to the lake.
As soon as we arrived, we headed down to the lake. What is the first thing Chris does whenever he is near water? He looks for teeth! I can’t imagine there are any shark’s teeth here in SD but there is a Mammoth Fossil Site in Hot Springs so you never know!
Frisbee time on the beach!
James was due for a bath so we figured we could let him play frisbee in the water. He wasn’t so sure about this new game!
A big South Dakota storm rolled in and the next day we couldn’t even go past the trees onto the beach – the famous South Dakota wind was intense! The whole reservoir was covered in whitecaps!
Thankfully the wind didn’t last and we enjoyed a nice Angostura sunset!
Some areas along the shoreline are really rocky and I think it is pretty:
