We headed to Jo Mamas for breakfast. On their logo the ‘o’ is a coffee bean which helps explain their selection, they have coffee and bagels and also bagel sandwiches. We each grabbed a bagel sandwich and a coffee and headed to Rock Harbor so James could get some beach time.
What we had learned about Rock Harbor was that it was dog friendly before 9 am and that parking wasn’t enforced before 9 am. As it turns out, the data on the internet was not correct at all. So if you are looking to take your dog to Rock Harbor, this is the deal.
1. You can buy a beach parking pass starting at 9 am daily. (before that just tell them you are going at 9am to get one)
2. There is a day pass, but not for the beaches you want to go to so the sticker will cost you $70 for a week
3. The sticker you buy to be able to park at the beaches… it only works for the town you buy it for so if you want to go to another town’s beach you will have to buy another sticker.
Our parking attendant was pretty helpful with this because we didn’t know. She let us walk J for the 30 minutes we had before 9:00 am and that’s about all we needed. She also let J and two other dogs play off leash until some local that was walking up the beach complained.
It seems that the general rule here at the Cape is that you can do whatever you want until someone complains. Then you simply apologize and do what they want you to do instead. How very Democratic of them.
