Everyone had gone to bed before me because I was staying up to get caught up on my work. Sandra was sleeping near the back screen door because that’s where the cool air was coming in. I went to sleep on the couch in the next room around 1:00 am and was awakened around 3:00 am by Duke who sat up suddenly and walked to the back screen door.
I tip-toed over and heard a strange chattering noise and that’s when I spotted the two large raccoons that Duke was watching.
He was starting to get excited like the chipmunk episode so I closed the sliding door. (He could have easily gone through the screen) Then I pushed him away from the door inch by inch, grabbing his leash on the way back to the couch but forgetting to grab his collar which was back by the door. I looped his leash around his neck and held onto the other end as I tried to fall back asleep. He kept pulling on me and I realized that the minute I fell asleep and dropped the leash he was headed back to the window to whine and bark. The next best thing to chaining him to some of Ernie and Karen’s furniture was to chain him to me, so I clipped the other end of the leash to the back of my pants. If he tried to go agin I would know and hopefully it wouldn’t be because I was yanked off of the couch!
He kept me up for another two hours before I was finally able to fall asleep. Around 7:00 am I woke to the neighbor’s kid screaming which continued for the next two hours. So with four hours of sleep, I went ahead and got up.
