The storm lasted about 30 min. then let up enough for us to venture out. We had picked up a pack of wood and a fire log before seeing the rain cloud and our firewood was sitting under a small tarp in the fire pit during the rain storm. Luckily I couldn’t get the fire started before the rain and the small tarp (intended as a doormat for the tent) was our quick attempt to keep the wood dry.
Luckily our plan worked. The rain had dispersed the bugs and we started a fire to help get some smoke to keep them away as well.
We made dinner and took the dogs for a short walk before heading back to the tent to go to bed. Tonight is supposed to get down to 66 degrees so the fan may get turned off at some point, but amazingly we are on the original set of batteries and we run it from the time the tent is set up until we wake up the next morning. So far that has been all but 2 nights. That’s longer than the published battery life for sure!
The light from the fire is obvious but the white light behind me is from our LED lantern and without me in front of it this photo would not have turned out very well at all. This lantern is amazing!
I’m off to make sure the fire is out before going to bed. The reason we typically don’t build a fire is because it is such a pain to put it out before bed and because you can see so many more stars without it. But this was our first stop after not being rained on so we were a little excited. The rain has passed but hopefully the drips from the trees will help the fire go out without to much effort on my part.
