We have a few days off from shooting (woohoo!) so we figured we better take advantage of the time and fix at our house. Our living room floor needed new carpet. We kept looking at new types, and we just couldn’t find one we wanted. I think it was our real dislike of carpet. Then we went to our friend and fellow photographer Gary’s house. He and his wife Marti have fixed it up – including painting their terrazzo to look like wood! It looked awesome! I decided I wanted to do the same – except paint white instead of the wood look. I wanted a more modern art gallery look.
The nasty carpet comes out!
I will add another photo when I get a good daylight shot, but here is an idea of the white floor:
Then the kitchen was about 95% finished since we have been working at it bit by bit. The last thing was we needed to replace the range and hood with white – we have been phasing out the black since the white looks much better. We did the fridge right when we moved in. Then we did the dishwasher about a year ago.
Dad takes out the old hood with a hammer (actually it was nailed up there all silly by the previous owners):
Can you tell Chris likes the new hood I picked out? I got a nice one – it has two lights that are REALLY bright! We can see our food now when we cook it! Is that a good thing?
The finished look:
Then we had this odd hole across the kitchen. We assumed it was for an above the counter microwave. Then the house down the street from us is for rent and it is our same layout. So we looked in the windows one day – and it was for a stove! Our kitchen has been remodeled a lot before we moved in – and I am so glad! So we opened up the outlet and sure enough it was wired for a stove. Dad helped Chris move the outlet up into the cabinet and we got a nice white above the counter microwave. It is awesome! I will take a photo of it finished later – I just have an outlet re-do photo:
