My friend Stacy told us she would be in Orlando for Thanksgiving. She lives out in Dallas. We were trying to figure out a way to see each other over such a busy weekend. She runs marathons, so she invited us to join her in the Orlando Turkey Trot 5k. I was up for the challenge! I asked Chris and he was up for it, too! We have a few walk routes, one being our “long” route. It takes us just under an hour to walk it. We clocked it and it turns out it is exactly 5k.
I was really nervous about the race. We have been practicing, but I didn’t know how it would be with people everywhere and my nerves. So I didn’t sleep very well. But I woke up excited, got dressed warmly and off we went. It was 48 degrees, so we layered up. I did learn I need to own more Dry-Fit stuff if we are going to keep doing this. My cotton clothes were soaked when we finished!
Here we are pre-race:
My inspiration, Stacy:
What a rush and inspiration this race was! I wanted to keep running and running! I think I was feeding off the other runners. As I got passed, I would think “I need to start running again – I have been walking for too long now.” But Chris was too tired, so I decided to stay with him. But now that I have done this race, I will try another. I might even try it on my own just to see what best time I could do.
Here we are all red faced right after the race (our time: 45:10, not bad!):
Another post race shot with bananas, Gatorade and my favorite bagels from Einstein’s:
When can we do it again?
