If you watch the Bachelor on ABC you know about Jason and Molly’s wedding in the rain.
A little bit of background:
I watched the Trista season and the Andrew Firestone season but then I quit watching the show.
I noticed on Facebook last March (2009) that everyone was talking about this Jason – Molly – Melissa finale on the Bachelor and I couldn’t help but wonder what all the full was about! So I found the videos on YouTube and watched what happened. I hadn’t seen the season so I really didn’t have any feelings either way about anyone but since everyone was talking about it I decided to watch the next season featuring Jillian. It was fun watching it again (definitely interesting!) and then they had ads at the end about the wedding of Jason and Molly being featured on TV. So I recorded that.
What a great wedding Jason and Molly had! The number one reason I loved it? They got married in the rain! We see so many weddings moved inside because of rain or even the chance of rain. I can count at least 5 weddings that were moved inside and it didn’t actually rain at all. When one of those brides asked to move it back outside the location told her it would be $500. This was a small wedding of around 30 guests. I could see if they were moving large floral displays and 300 chairs. But a small wedding? And they didn’t have any floral arrangements to be moved? I felt awful for her.
I love how they had clear umbrellas for all of the guests at Jason and Molly’s wedding. Wedding planner Jo Gartin said they didn’t have a backup plan and you could tell she was irritated by that. Of course she was! These coordinators don’t do what the bride wants – they do what they want. And in most cases my brides still wanted to get married outside but they were flat out told no by their coordinator. And I do see where guests my not want to get wet (an umbrella only covers so much) and they are welcome to watch from inside.
Weather happens and it isn’t the end of the world – I am sure Molly was able to dry her dress and fix her hair and makeup. So what if everything was delayed an hour for everyone to dry off and fix their hair and makeup. You know their day was much more memorable than a boring ballroom with no decor!
I guess what saddens me the most is when these weddings are moved inside into ballrooms where they fold up all of the walls to make this tiny room with chairs only. No other decor at all. It is always pretty ugly.
At least this one had a temporary arch setup to somewhat cover the door to the kitchen:
Jason and Molly’s planner said something along the lines of “Normally there would be a Plan B, but that choice wasn’t made. I would have made that choice, and we would have been nice and cozy and warm inside.†Nice and cozy and pretty ugly to me! I much prefer the rain!
Here is an outdoor wedding (it didn’t rain) but just to compare the backdrop:
And finally, the video on ABC’s website of Jason and Molly’s vows:
*edited – the video was removed from the ABC website so here is a photo instead.
