You know I’m a big fan of the History Channel, and it’s mainly because they make history interesting. Tonight they did a show on Ice and to my disappointment they completely skipped over John Gorrie who invented the first Ice Machine, but they did say that Americans spend nearly $2.5 Billion anually on ice! (To bad John Gorrie didn’t find a way to get a Bill Gates style monopoly going back in the 1800’s)
At first I thought that it was just a really crazy fact, but then I started to think about how incredible it is that our economy can generate $2.5 Billion Dollars per year for frozen water. It makes you really think about how simple it is to make money in the US if you can find a product to fit a need, even if that product is as simple as a bag of ice!
Here’s another cool bit of ICE trivia from the History Channel. The iceberg that sunk the Titanic separated from it’s glacier roughly the same year that construction on the Titanic began.
If you’re going to watch TV, you can at least learn something.
