There is so much cool stuff on the History Channel that I just can’t turn it off. Every show teaches you something new whether you like it or not.
Today I learned that Disney is the one responsible for creating the first steal roller coaster. They were looking for a way to build a coaster inside of a fake mountain and there was not enough room for a wooden coaster to flex so someone came up with the idea of using steal pipe which could be bent and welded together.
Disney also uses compressed air to send their fireworks into the air instead of gun powder. That probably saves them a fortune and gives them consistant control over their fireworks displays.
I also learned that Apple Computer holds the record as raising the most money for an IPO since 1956 and made the most instant millionaires ever from the IPO. (I think there’s a catch in the definition of ‘instant millionaire’ but they didn’t go into that)
I am starting to feel really smart! Who knew history could be so interesting? Yesterday it was Ancient Rome, Ancient Egypt and today the 1980’s and Disney. Thank you History Channel!
