There is something weird about Maryland (and Virginia seems to have this problem, too). There are hardly any sidewalks! Look at almost ANY neighborhood in Maryland and you will notice it. I love older neighborhoods with houses over 20 years old. And those are the ones that rarely have sidewalks. So this is what happens – a Maryland sidewalk:
We can’t figure this out. In Florida, there are sidewalks everywhere. And even where I grew up – some of the smaller neighborhoods with 10-30 houses MIGHT not have a sidewalk. But when you walked out to the main road there was a really nice big sidewalk for walking, running, riding your bike, rollerblading, etc. I really enjoy walking and I told Chris my #1 priority on picking a place to live is the walkability. We looked at a lot of houses in the DC suburbs where there were no sidewalks at all and I would be very nervous walking alone or with James on these busy roads. I love driving the back roads to visit my friend Tina out in Germantown, MD. One road I like to take (there is even a one lane bridge!) is Glen Mill Road. The huge houses are amazing and they all have huge properties. But one thing is missing: sidewalks! Where do these people walk? Even if we found an amazing deal on one of those houses I would never buy it because there isn’t a sidewalk for walking around the neighborhood.
