We looked up fun events for Chris’ birthday weekend in Cheyenne and we found a team roping event. We had never been to a rodeo before – and YES, Chris was just waiting to say to someone at the event, “Well, this IS my first rodeo…” ha! We arrived early and they were spraying down the field with water. After the field was wet, they ran over the field with a plow to even everything out:
Once the event started, we quickly figured out what was happening. One roper gets the head of the steer and then the other roper gets the back feet. They are called headers and heelers. It all looked hard but the heeler’s job looked especially hard!
Here are a few short videos I took of the roping:
This heeler was a young boy and he was really good!!
