I LOVE makeup. I could go to Sephora every day. When I travel, I have a great train case for my makeup. But when I camp I like to pare down my makeup stash. Here are the basics I brought with me for our recent camping trip to Cape Cod.
BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream with SPF 30
This is a great summer foundation. Depending on the season and the day of the week I switch out my foundation. Some days I like full coverage, other days I like matte, and other days I like to mix oil with my foundation. Since I wanted to stay basic for this trip I knew the BareMinerals Complexion Rescue would work best. I have also used the BareMinerals Prime Time BB Primer-Cream. I know it is labeled as a “primer†but it works great as a tinted BB cream, too.
Urban Decay Cannonball Ultra Waterproof Mascara
I don’t usually wear waterproof mascara, but since we would be doing a lot of swimming I chose my Urban Decay Cannonball waterproof mascara. It does have fibers in it to build your lashes – I say this because the first time I saw fibers in a mascara I thought it was old and the brush had started to break down into the mascara. That is not the case!
Make up For Ever Aqua Eyes Eyeliner in Black
This is a great black waterproof eyeliner that I use almost every day on my upper waterline. It helps with my blonde eyelashes so I have more definition.
MAC Technakohl eyeliner in Earthline
This eyeliner isn’t waterproof but I love the light color for my lower eye.
Lancome Juicy Shaker lip gloss
I am obsessed with this new lip gloss! I think it is an updated version of the Juicy Tubes and I never really cared for those. They were messy and hard to apply. They were not very pigmented so that helped. These new Juicy Shakers are very pigmented! You shake them up to mix the pigment and oil and then remove the cap and apply with the cushion applicator.
Sephora #90 brush
This is my FAVORITE blush brush. Oh I wish I would have bought it sooner! It is the perfect size for blush and it is very soft.
Paula’s Choice Resist Anti-Aging Lip Gloss SPF 40
When I am spending a lot of time outdoors (camping, at the beach, hiking, swimming), I like to have a lip product with SPF. I have tried so many over the years and never really loved any of them. Then Paula came out with this Resist gloss and I was sold! I love everything Paula’s Choice makes and I knew this would be exactly what I was looking for all these years!
Smashbox 24 Hour Photo Finish Shadow Primer
When I lived in Florida and photographed weddings in the hot hot heat, I had to use eyeshadow primers to lock my eyeshadow in place. Now that we live more north, I probably don’t need it. But I just like to make sure my eyeshadow doesn’t budge and I am so used to applying it before my eyeshadow that it is a habit.
Laura Mercier Eye Shadow Brush
I bought this double sided eye shadow brush as a part of a travel kit a few years ago at Bloomingdales. This is one of my favorite travel brushes that was in the kit.
Eye Drops
I find that when I have eye drops on me, I don’t need them. And when I forget to pack them, I always need them! It is rare that something gets into my eye but when it does, I love washing it out with eye drops.
Sephora MicroSmooth Baked Blush Duo
You can’t really see the blush in the photo, but I packed my Sephora Guava Glow blush for this trip. When I travel normally (not camping) I like to bring 2-3 blushes but this time I just wanted one simple summery blush.
Paula’s Choice Eye Shadow Palette
Like blush, I usually like to bring 2-3 sets of eyeshadow when traveling. I rarely wear the same eyeshadows several days in a row. But for this trip I wanted to back light and basic. I recently got this eyeshadow palette from Paula’s Choice as a free gift with an order. It has 4 neutral brown/tans and one shimmery purple. Maybe I will do a regular makeup travel post and talk about my favorite eyeshadow palettes. I have found that around the holidays you can get great sets from Sephora and Ulta that are perfect for traveling.
Cotton Swabs
I use these to clean under my eyes and to clean up any makeup mistakes.
Real Techniques Expert Face Brush
This is one of the best foundation brushes I have owned. I actually have two and rotate them out while cleaning and drying. I love that the Real Techniques brushes are so affordable! I bought mine at Walmart when we lived in Florida but I know Ulta carries them, too.
