I always loved watching the Miss America pageant when I was growing up. I think I liked the big dresses and the big hair! I still look at these women today and wonder how they get their hair so big! I competed in my high school pageant when I was a junior and my hair was pretty big but still not big enough. And I used a ton of hairspray! I had quite a team helping me – my mom is a hairdresser and her nail tech from the shop was my overall stylist (her daughter did pageants so she knew what she was doing!)
I love the emotions when they announce the winner! Miss New York Mallory Hytes Hagan being announced as Miss America 2013 with first runner up Miss South Caroline Ali Rogers:

Miss South Carolina Ali Rogers definitely had the best gown of the evening! I would love to see a bride wear this as her wedding dress! It is a gorgeous white gown!
I noticed this with the Golden Globes, too – dresses with trains are definitely in style right now! This one is over the top but after all it is the Miss America pageant and over the top is allowed! Miss Illinois Megan Irvin:
