This weekend has probably been the hottest weekend we’ve had this year. It was rough! And we had five shoots! I sweat a lot and Friday morning’s session was the start of it. I didn’t have my handkerchief on me and I regretted it. Then Friday afternoon I did have it but the sun was behind a storm cloud and it wasn’t as hot as the morning session (whew!). I wore my usual makeup all weekend but today I decided to try something new. I have the Shine Stopper from Paula’s Choice and I have used it alone, under makeup and on top of makeup. My favorite is probably when I wear it alone but I do have a little redness in my skin that I like to tone down. When I wear it under my makeup I feel like my makeup doesn’t spread around as easily as my usual primer (either Paula’s Choice Super Antioxidant Serum or Amazing Cosmetics Anti Aging Face Primer). It probably is fine but it just feels harder to spread (I wear liquid makeup since my skin is dry/combination). I did try putting a little bit of the Shine Stopper on top of my makeup but I felt like I was then rubbing off my makeup. Again, it probably just feels like it but it is fine.
Today I decided to experiment and mix my liquid foundation (Make Up Forever HD recommended to me be by the amazing Michele at M3 Makeup) with the Shine Stopper. Wow! I couldn’t believe it – after a few hours in very muggy post-rain heat I didn’t have any shine! This is definitely my new foundation practice on hot shiny skin prone days (pretty much most of the year in Florida).

And a few of my other heat proof favorites:
*Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Sin (a great base and I can wear it alone if I don’t want to have a lot of eye makeup)
*Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner (my favorite colors are Violet Ink and Denim Ink – I really want to try the new Twilight Night Shimmer Ink, too!)
*Tarte 4 Day Lash Stain (this has been discontinued so I will have to search for a new one when mine runs out. It is tricky to use – it dries fast and you have to run a clean lash wand through it to make sure your lashes don’t stick together. It is really crispy when it is dry but the goal *is* waterproof and I mean lots of Florida heat sweat and wedding tears waterproof!) I am checking Beautypedia for a replacement and sadly, a lot of the waterproof mascaras that Paula recommends are discontinued. I don’t think women wear a lot of waterproof mascara. I know I only wear it when I know I will need it (shoots or weddings) and not day to day. I’ve tried the Bobbi Brown No Smudge Mascara and I didn’t like it at all (it definitely smudged and flaked on me!). I might try the Make Up For Ever Lengthening Waterproof Mascara, though.
