When we were visiting family in South Florida, Kristi and Jeremy told us about Lucky’s Market. We had just come back from many months in Europe and I hadn’t seen a Publix in years. So I was just too excited about Publix to stop at Lucky’s Market instead. And I didn’t even ask them about Lucky’s Market – to me it sounded like the giant Asian supermarket we had in Orlando called 1st Oriental Supermarket (by the way, if you are in Orlando, the 1st Oriental Supermarket over on Highway 50 is amazing! Right as you walk in the front door there are cooked ducks hanging up – get the salted duck. It is so so so good. You might want to tell them you don’t want the head).
When we were visiting family in Tallahassee, I decided to try out this Lucky’s Market that Kristi and Jeremy mentioned since there was also a store there. I had read online that their sugar-free deli bacon was yummy. I asked my mother in law Patty if she wanted to join me. I immediately loved the store! It is like a Whole Foods but not as pretentious. It is like a Fresh Market but with more day to day items (Fresh Market seems special occasion and party supplies to me). And the prices are much better than Whole Foods!
The produce looked great and so did the deli counter. They had bulk items like nuts and candy. And the best part is the apothecary section! It is much better than Whole Foods and almost as good as what Swanson has online. As soon as we left Florida, I realized how much I missed Lucky’s Market. I started looking for it everywhere we went!
Luckily we are now in Denver and Lucky’s Market was started here in Boulder. I read that the couple that started it was bought out by Kroger and that is great! I still love Safeway as my #1 grocery store followed by Publix. But for a natural market, Lucky’s is definitely my #1 choice!
If you stop by a Lucky’s Market I recommend:
- Lucky brand Gummy Bears in the bulk section
- Chocolate covered almonds in the bulk section
- Sugar Free Paleo Bacon at the deli counter
- Four Sigmatic Mushroom Coffee Packets
- The entire apothecary section!
- Lucky Brand tinctures
- Fried Peanuts (shell and all! They are weird but good!)
- Freshly pressed juices at the front of the store
