Since arriving in Vienna, I have decided to try all of the croissants (and some other baked goods) I could find. I wanted to find the BEST. Well, they are all good. I should say they are all WAY better than the croissants we found in the US. We would buy croissants from the bakery in DC at Safeway and they were okay, but always soft – almost wet? Never crisp on the outside. Then a bakery at our Rose Park farmer’s market had pretty good croissants but they still left you searching for better. Oh and please don’t ever buy baked croissants at Sam’s Club. I got very sick from eating one and I read the package and it was made using an artificial butter replacement. Huh?!!? I think I had a mild reaction to that fake butter.
I tried croissants at our little corner bakery, at Der Mann, Ströck, Anker and many, many more. But the best croissants? Le Crobag!!! It is located at the main train station and – oh my goodness – everything there is amazing. The croissants are so soft on the inside and they have this perfect crispness on the outside. They are delicious! They also have marzipan croissants (sweet yum!), kase croissants (savory yum!) and so many other delicious goodies. If I am ever missing while in Vienna – I am probably at Le Crobag.
I looked up Le Crobag – the name comes from Croissant combined with Baguette. And they are located primarily in train stations. Now you know where to find me!
It took me a few minutes to get this photo of the place empty – the place is usually so busy!
