I knew I was going to miss Trader Joe’s when we arrived in Vienna. Trader Joe’s has the best salad dressings (Goddess is my favorite). I knew we would find perfectly good salad dressing in Vienna. Or would we???
One of the many, many pre-made salad dressings found in the states:
Our first day here I stopped at the grocery store for basics to get us through the first few days. I picked up salad, cucumbers and then I started to look for salad dressing. All I could find was oil and vinegar! Interesting! In the prepared foods section I finally found some tiny one-use dressings. They were yogurt based which I knew Chris wouldn’t love. But I figured it would work for now until I had more time to look.
After a few weeks of looking and using oil and vinegar I broke down and decided to look up how to make blue cheese dressing. It is sad that I am so used to prepared EVERYTHING and the idea of making something from scratch sounds so daunting.
Little did I know that making it from scratch was easy and delicious – and Chris would eat it!
The basic recipe of the home made blue cheese dressing that I made:
1 part mayonnaise
1 part sour cream
salt
blue cheese crumbles
That is it! I probably used 1/4 cup of mayo and 1/4 cup of sour cream. I let it sit in the fridge for a few days and wow, it was yummy! We had it on our salads tonight with dinner and Chris (who doesn’t usually love blue cheese dressing) approved!
