Chris and I were at Publix the other night and we were picking up a few things including firewood so we could sit out back with our new fire pit that Chris’ parents bought us for Christmas. As Chris walked by the hot dogs he said “Oh! We could cook…” and I interrupted him and said “S’mores!” Haha – we are definitely on different planes when it comes to food cravings. We got the hot dogs, graham crackers, chocolate and marshmallows and headed home. Chris cooked his hot dog no problem. But I was having trouble with the s’mores – the marshmallow would be warm, but since it was a cool night, the chocolate wasn’t melting enough and it was too hard. I came inside determined to have a perfect s’more. Here is what you do: Microwave the graham cracker with a square of chocolate and marshmallow on top of it for 10 seconds. The marshmallow puffs up quite a bit – but then top it with the other half of the graham cracker. There you have it – the perfect s’more!
Want to mix it up a bit? Try a caramel apple s’more:
1 marshmallow
2 chewy caramels
2 green apple slices, about 1/2-inch thick
Skewer the marshmallow followed by the two caramels on the same roasting stick. Roast until golden. Slide concoction onto one of the apple slices, top with remaining slice.
