Yesterday evening, James was playing like a 2 year old with his new friends that are both around 2 years old. James was running, jumping, chasing the ball and I couldn’t believe how nuts he was acting! I decided he needed a break and I took him home but then he kept pawing at the door to go back outside. I thought maybe he needed to go to the bathroom since he was too busy playing to go. As soon as we went outside, James started yanking me back to the dog park! James then joined his friends for a second round of madness.
Last night, I thought James would be exhausted. But he couldn’t get comfortable. He would start up in our bed, then move to the floor on his bed and then he would move to the carpet and he just kept moaning and moving – ALL night long. I took him out two different times – once around 1am and again around 4am. By 5:30am, I was a little worried. James hadn’t eaten his dinner and his stomach was growling. He was having trouble walking. He still didn’t want his kibble and he ate a few treats reluctantly. By 8am, James was shaking and really starting to moan. And he really looked pitiful when he walked – like he was in a LOT of pain. I panicked (of course I did) and decided he needed to go to the vet. Luckily, Dr. Dennis said James was just fine and he just needed to rest, eat and drink (he was a little dehydrated). James got some pain medicine and now I have to keep an eye on him at the dog park – just because James thinks he is 2 years old (he is actually 9.5 years old!) doesn’t mean I can let him play like a 2 year old!
Thankfully it was a beautiful day today and we sat outside a little bit after James’ pain medicine started to wear down a bit.
