We made it to Vienna, Austria!
Our flat is in the 4th district – just south of the 1st district which is Central Vienna. We can walk to the center of town and it takes about 20 minutes. We can also walk to the Hauptbahnhof and it takes about 5 minutes. We decided to rent furnished locations for now until we find a place where we will stay put for a long time. This flat is 1 bedroom and it has one small bathroom with only a toilet and a sink and another bathroom with a shower, bath tub, sink and washing machine.
We are slowly getting used to being right in the heart of a city. We came from Georgetown where there were a lot of trees, tree boxes, flower boxes and birds. It felt like a neighborhood even though we were in the heart of DC. But it was noisy in Georgetown. Here in the 4th district we don’t have any trees or tree boxes. People do have flower boxes up in their windows above the street. But is just doesn’t feel as “green.” We have a few birds but they are all crows. To get to trees and plants you have to walk to a nearby park. Luckily there are parks everywhere! And it is SO quiet here in Vienna. When we sleep at night it is so weird to not hear anything but our breathing! There are so many shops downstairs as you walk around our block: hairdressers, travel agents, bakeries, toy stores, coffee shops, ice cream shops, pet stores, a sports bar, a grocery store… everything you need is SO close. It almost feels like New York City to us.
Our living room, dining room and office space all in one:
Our nice big kitchen (and I say big because our kitchen in Georgetown was a one person at a time space!):
