I would love to wear this Ian Stuart “Belle” wedding dress! I would have an old south southern belle theme and I would get married on a plantation in Charleston, South Carolina!
I love the one shoulder but I really love the ruffled shrug that folds over the shoulder. I think I wore a dress similar to this on a date function while at the University of Florida! I need to see if I can find old photos of that dress. I was dating a boy that was in Kappa Alpha and they had a date function called “Old South” where you would dress up in Civil War era clothing and get on a paddle wheel boat for a party.
I did a search to see if KA still had their Old South Ball and apparently it is a tradition for all of Kappa Alpha – not just the chapter at UF. Check out this blog post from an intern named Anna at Southern Weddings Magazine. I love the big bows on the backs of the dresses in her photos!

Year ago Chris and I were outside of Savannah, Georgia and we took a side trip to Wormsloe Plantation. The home is now in ruins but the tree lined road heading to the old house is still perfect! Apparently the opening scene of Forrest Gump was filmed in Savannah and although the people at Wormsloe Plantation deny that this is the tree lined road that Forrest Gump ran along, it looks exactly like it. Could you imagine getting married in front of a house like the one in Forrest Gump?! Wow!
Here is the road at Wormsloe Plantation:
Chris and I photographed a wedding at Nottoway Plantation just outside of Baton Rouge, Louisiana not long ago. It would be a great southern belle theme wedding dress location for this Ian Stuart gown! Here are the photos we took from the wedding at Nottoway Plantation:
