Duke and Goblin are at the vet today. I am super anxious – they are getting some possible tumors removed. They are also getting their teeth cleaned since they will already be sedated. Did I mention I was anxious? I also had to go see the doctor today and they needed to take blood. My veins were missing from being so anxious!
The vet we go to is awesome and my friend Lori has worked there for years. They had a Golden puppy there once that was bit by a rattlesnake. The anti-venom costs them $500 so you can imagine what the owner pays for it plus keeping the dog under 24 hour supervision. And even then the chances of surviving are slim.
But this puppy beat the odds and survived. His whole snout was swollen. Poor thing – I fell in love with him!
Then there is the other end of the human spectrum. A family was checking in their Pit Bull while we were checking in Duke and Goblin. The Pit puppy had an obvious cough. He had a cute long tail with a white tip. He was there to get his tail docked. When the vet tech asked if they were getting him neutered, too, the woman said “No, we don’t need that. Just the tail docking.” Here the dog is sick and needs to be fixed and all they care about is a cosmetic procedure. Good thing I quit working at the vet after high school – I would tell those kind of people what I think of them!
