Bar Harbor, Maine

Posted on September 15, 2009September 2, 2018 by Chris

Today was the first day we were not breaking camp to drive to somewhere else. We were spending two nights in Bar Harbor because we wanted to see Acadia, we had been told that it was an amazing place and so far that’s what we had seen.

We slept in until around 8:00 am when we could call Safelite to schedule an appointment, aparently the FJ is a tough repair so we needed to plan for 2 hours at the shop and that’s with a 3 hour drive to the nearest shop and we want the 8:00 am appointment for tomorrow if possible.

But today we headed to downtown Bar Harbor where we returned some email and called AT&T to prepare for our trip into Canada. We then headed down to the pier to get some breakfast at grumpy’s and went to check out the internet cafe so I could get some work done that had just come in. The problem… my PC back home had aparently restarted on it’s own and I couldn’t connect to it. Our neighbor was away from home for a few hours and I was basicly screwed unless I could come up with another plan. I then bought and downloaded TurboCAD which sucked out loud for $80, then decided to install windows on my Mac (which made me gag) but it took an hour to find someone to sell me windows and we were missing our park day!

Once I found a fresh copy of Windows I started the Bootcamp Install which seemed to be going well except I couldn’t keep track of my battery life durring the install and it showed 59 min before I started!

So out came the inverter. If all else fails plug it in, right? But the inverter blew the fuse in the car and three minutes later durring an otherwise perfect install my battery died and the machine shut off and I was now stuck with a dead computer battery, no way to connect back home and a crashed Windows install that… who knew what it would do when I restarted. Not to mention that there was nothing available as an outlet and now that the power was blown in the car we couldn’t charge our phones or the Tom Tom. Just Damn.
