Sandra is Vegan?

Posted on June 7, 2007September 2, 2018 by Sandra

Well, not totally. I can have chicken but not the egg!

You might have read my post a few weeks ago that I found a new doctor. He has been doing all kinds of tests trying to figure out why a few things I have won’t go away. One thing is I am a little sensitive to some foods, so he did a food allergy test on me.

In the meantime, he told me to eat more protein and to go buy some protein shakes. The shakes were very good, but they were making me ill. Yesterday, I found out why.

I am allergic to whey! And just about everything else I eat!

Here is my list of highly allergic foods:

whey

yogurt

cottage cheese

cow’s milk

eggs

lamb

spelt

wheat

casein

gluten

And the list continues with foods I am moderately allergic to:

almonds

bananas

blueberries

beef

chedder cheese

mozzarella cheese

oysters

garlic

kidney beans

oats

rye

sesame

spelt

sunflower

pineapple

sugar cane

I tried not to panic and laugh at the same time when he told me this and showed me the report. All I eat is Almonds, bananas and eggs! And lately I’ve been drinking whey protein shakes and almond milk! Damn! No wonder I am a mess. But when he mentioned the werid ones like gluten and casein I told him I don’t know what those are so I’m sure I don’t eat them. He said I need to be careful – they are in almost everything.

So I went home and started crying. I had no idea I was eating all that was bad for me! Chris was very sweet and he said he would take me to the health food store to get some yummy CFGF (casein free, gluten free as they call it) food. Oh and nothing with wheat. No problem! How hard can this be? Oh you can not imagine!

The sad part was I was at the health food store looking at crackers that were cfgf and the girl asked if she could help. I asked if there was a bread I could get. She showed me the way and I said, nope, this has eggs. Then another, nope this has wheat. Then another, nope this has almonds. Finally she said “what do you eat?” with a look of shock on her face. This coming from the girl at the health food store is not a good sign!

I ended up making a sandwich with lettuce as my bread. I can have hummus – yum! And chicken lunch meat. So it looks like I am going vegan, with chicken. Let’s see how this goes….

Oh and this probably means no more food reviews. Going out to eat is going to be tricky from now on!
